A Comprehensive Analysis of Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds were originally made predominantly for conservatories, but as both manufacturing technologies have moved on and the choices of fabrics has become extensive, pleats are no longer the single domain of the pleated conservatory blind but can be found throughout the home.According to wikipedia a definition is:-   “Pleated blinds are pleated fabric shades that pull up to sit flat at the top of a window to hide from site or to reduce sunlight, and therefore heat, when desired. Honeycomb pleated blinds, or cellular blinds, which are similar to pleated blinds, except that there are two or more layers joined at the pleats to form cellular compartments that trap air; provide insulation.

Pleated blinds are the most decorative of all the window blinds available in the market and add a decorative flair to windows. These blinds are highly functional, being almost perfect for awkward windows, making them a great choice for buyers looking for effectiveness with a decorative element.

Honeycomb Pleated blinds are a relatively new type of window blinds to the market and by providing benefits like protection against thermal loss and air-trapping, these blinds give other types of window covering a good run for their money.

Advantages of Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds and honeycomb pleated blinds offer several benefits:

  • Perfect for difficult and awkward windows
  • Simplicity of use
  • Decorative beauty with a huge choice of designs, and styles
  • Vast range of colours and fabrics that will accent the décor of your home
  • Gives the same “cosy curtain feeling” whilst offering the practicality of blinds
  • Heat reflection and heat conservation in the cooler months
  • The design allows for operating cords to be neatly tucked behind the blinds
  • Ideal for conservatory blinds as they can be made to fit all shaped roof windows
  • Ideal for tilt and turn windows

Disadvantages of Pleated Blinds

  • Can be relatively expensive in comparison to say roller blinds
  • Some of the “less expensive” makes may not stay pleated for very long
  • Little control over privacy – either up or down
  • Must be “stacked” on a regular basis to prevent pleat loss
  • Collect dead flies and require cleaning
  • Insects crawl in to the cellular pockets and may be difficult to remove
