Roman blinds offer a large variety of options for those who are installing blinds in their home, and very simply put are mainly soft fabrics which gather into pleats when the blind is raised.  Using Roman blinds can create a very “classical” look to the home and when selective in your choice of fabric, will give a look of classical elegance.  When the blind is lifted, the way the panels are designed to fold creates a very luxurious feel to both the blind and the room.

Different types of Roman blinds cater to varying individual needs, making them one of the most flexible blinds in which to consider, particularly as they can be made out of almost any material that you want.  Roman blinds are often compared to pleated blinds because of the similarity in the usage.

Roman Blinds - Working Aspects
Roman blinds can be made of thick material, and if combined with a reflective backing will stops heat drafts from escaping during the winter months.  The presence of heat energy in the room ensures that the room will stay at a high temperature, and the degree of warmth is dependant on the type of material used.  In reverse, during the hotter weather these blinds when lowered can help to maintain a comfortable room temperature by reflecting heat away from the room.

Advantages of Roman Blinds

  • Flexibility in range of materials
  • Massive range of colours and styles
  • Ability to remain affordable by selection of fabric
  • Ability to assist in maintaining and controlling room temperatures
  • Creation of instant elegance
  • Simple to use
  • Roman blinds can be made to measure, ready made or supplied in kit-form
  • Simple in structure
  • Easy  to maintain
  • Excellent for large areas of glass such as conservatory blin
Disadvantages of Roman Blinds
  • Can be difficult to dismantle if heavy fabrics have been used when redecorating
  • When in the raised position, the blind still obscures part off the window
  • Due to the above, Roman blinds may not be best for small windows
  • If the blind base is shaped, light may still enter the room which may need consideration in bedrooms
  • Some can be considered a little too “frilly”
